“MIKA” Chess Club Visit Card

The “MIKA” Chess Club is a non-governmental organization (NGO) established in March 2006 by the well known businessman and benefactor Michael Baghdasarov and International Chess Arbiter Ashot Vardapetyan. The main goal of the Club is to support development and dissemination of chess in Armenia as well as to organize a professional club that operates in all chess levels.

The gorgeous performance of “MIKA” Chess Club in the Women European Chess Clubs’ Championship 2006 in Fugen, Austria, exceeded all expectations. The Team consisted of Maia Chiburdanidze, Elina Daneliyan, Nino Khurtsidze and Nelli Aghinyan the whole championship played with brilliance and returned to Yerevan with European gold medals.

2006 was also a successful year for the juniors of “MIKA” Chess Club. In the first Junior Club Open Championship of Russia in Dagamis “MIKA” Chess Club with the team members Gevorg Alaverdyan, Aghasi Inants, Suren Sahakyan, David Gevorgyan, Nune Darbinyan and Diana Mnatsakanyan left 26 clubs from 7 countries behind, shared the second and the third places and returned home with bronze medals.

A chess school is operated on a base of the Club with its comfortable class rooms furnished with computers and all necessary modern stuff and equipment.
